The Origin of 'Twisted Hair'

A "Twisted Hair" is an indigenous name given to the Storytellers who traveled among the tribes of the American Indians. They wore a small knotted and twisted bun that fell in the middle of their foreheads, marking them as historians and teachers of the tribe. When the Twisted Hairs told stories around the communal fire after dinner they would encourage freedom of thought and respect, special or 'Medicine' stories, when told in a timely manner could encourage the Children to take on new responsibilities whilst learning that they were equal members of the community.
