"The Giant Tooth"

The Pilot ~ by Jane Thornton

Welcome to the fantastical world of Feathertickle Rainforest, created to engage Children's imaginations, where anything can happen and does. Thimblewood Glade, found in the heart of the Rainforest was the traditional sacred clearing amongst the Sqwatchberry bushes where many a hearth fire had been host to nights of storytelling and high-tales until one wild and woolly night, at least one Blue Moon ago, tragedy struck. A freak bolt of lightning destroyed the ancient wooden Storyteller's Throne and the glade has remained dark ever since. The overgrown cindered remains have become home to Flicka, the Fearless Firefly, Tinka and Tonkabell, the Intrepid Tooth Fairies, and their companions, Spike, the Excalibur of Toothbrushes, and Pewta, the Incorrigible Laptop.

On the eve of the Blue Moon, a herald for a very significant event, Flicka's prophetic dreams lead her to discover TS, the Talking Stick on his quest to find and uproot the long lost Storyteller's Holey Throne. At duskfall the next day, Tinka, Tonkabell, Spike and Flicka, glowing with excitement, gathered at the Glade.

"All for fun and fun for all !" they chant as Flicka, full beam ahead, leads the way up through the canopy and in classic silhouette, past the now glorious full Blue Moon sitting amidst the colourful night stars and passing wisp of cloud. The salacious, luminous, nuclear green DK ~the Arch Villain, looks on from below mumbling something about an 'eye for a tooth' before dissolving, shape shifter like, into the night foliage...

Along with the 'virtual' magic of Pewta and the guidance and encouragement of The Four Winds and Elders such as the ubiquitous Mother Earth and TS, the intrepid team navigate the typhonic snortels of a Giant and the hairy, scary Fairy Badlands to return home safely with 'The Giant Tooth'. Wingnut, The Tooth Wiz, in the fine tradition of tooth-masonry, will fashion the giant tooth into the long awaited 'Storyteller's Holey Throne' which will come to hold worlds of infinite possibilities and adventures, as magical as our imaginations. A new tradition of Children's Storytelling, set around the sacred hearth of Thimblewood Glade, has begun...

The Series Philosophy

"The Freckles of Feathertickle"
(Working Title)

('Freckle' is the name for the winged and legged inhabitants of Feathertickle)

This series concept has been created for Children in Mid Primary, Ages 6~9 with a philosophical view for creating an environment that puts the empowerment of Storytelling literally back into the hands of the Child. From the Storyteller's Holey Throne, now in it rightful place before the hearth of Thimblewood Glade, the characters will narrate their own stories (ie: episodes) whilst holding Spike who although a tad reluctant, becomes the resident 'talking stick'. As is customary, (passed on by TS, the Talking Stick Elder) it will give the holder the honored position of speaker whilst teaching the audience the gift of listening. As the Throne signifies the point of departure and resolve of each journey, the adventures in between will be limitless, enabling the 'Narrator' to take us to any time, anywhere their imaginations and memories desire. The magic of the Throne is held in its mythical ability to reflect but gently guide the beliefs, fears and dreams of its beholder. And such is the universal experience and reward of growing up.
